Chapter 3

Will Richardson’s Blogs, Wikis, and Podcasts is a great resource for new and veteran teachers. Organizationally speaking, Richardson breaks his book into logical “chunks” of knowledge to be easily utilized and understood. His third chapter, “Weblogs: Get Started!” is a great example of his easy-to-understand discourse of the blogosphere.

As a future teacher, I hope to use blogs within my classroom as an information tool to connect the classroom with student’s home lives. One concern I have as a teacher is keeping parents, students, and myself on the same page, so to speak, about what is going on in the classroom. Blogging allows that conversation to happen at any time of day, which I think would help bring parents virtually into the classroom. In addition, that would also allow students’ work to be viewed by parents and visitors to the classroom, opening the four walls of the classroom to the world.
